Stormborn Majesty
2025 · Archival pigment print · Edition of 7 + 2 AP · 93 × 62 in. (236 × 157 cm) · $29,000 USDAbout this artwork
Lion wildlife art with architectural presence
Stormborn Majesty is the collection’s most expansive lion portrait. Weather and atmosphere gather around the animal, heightening endurance without diminishing the calm authority of the gaze. Blackwell uses monumental scale deliberately: at 93 inches wide, the lion becomes part of the architecture of the room. The work is designed for generous residences, hospitality settings and double-height walls where distance is available. From afar it reads as a powerful silhouette and tonal field; at closer range the mane, face and storm-like texture emerge. The edition is restricted to seven plus two artist proofs, preserving rarity at this exceptional size.
Blackwell’s decision to isolate the subject allows its gaze, surface and tonal structure to carry the image. At this scale the work reads clearly from across a room, while fine detail rewards a closer view. It is suited to a principal living space, private office, entrance hall or hospitality interior where the work has sufficient distance and light.
